In some respects, Facebook is changing the editorial practices because of what the audience will hoover up and that will be a bitter pill for anyone covering difficult topics/real journalism and not just crap-for-clicks. On the one hand, I applaud Facebook for taking a stand but not the way they're going about it. The public trustworthy vote, the weighting for posts, the outward "we're a force for good" but ultimately "we can't make decisions for the world". Take a stand already - it's your platform. Facebook admit they're still making up new rules and future changes will come which is just code for we'll keep you guessing because you cause us a lot of problems. I've written many times about not getting suckered to the Facebook teet because they can yank the milk away and this is what we're seeing here. Newsrooms certainly, but brands also, should start to evaluate your Facebook strategies - a little less reliance isn't a bad thing. Currently, Facebook remains pretty untouchable without significant regulation thanks to the gargantuan influence it wields - knowingly or unknowingly. Time is not on Facebook's side, the faster they grow, the faster they'll be broken up - it's now inevitable and just a question of when at least drive the boat where you want it. Facebook admits it got us sick, the least they can do is help us get better not make us work for it. ... "
