While the film isn't an entirely optimistic look at 1970's-era institutional sexism, it takes on a much grimmer look when you view it in light of a world where Donald Trump, not Hillary Clinton, is our current president. But modern-day politics aside, this is a thoughtful and moving period piece which works as much as a coming out story for a young woman who realizes she likes women as it is a cinematic recreation of a major sporting event. It won't win any Oscars this year, but it's still a darn good movie. Oh, and Fox Searchlight's suprisingly successful Gifted is an old-school studio programmer that works. ... "
