" ... 2. On my radio show, Star Talk, I interview people whose lives and livelihoods have been touched by science. It includes the cofounder of Twitter. I think he barely even graduated High School. He might've had some community college. You know who also was barely that was James Cameron, who has made 3 of the top 10 highest grossing films of all time. It's not that he just did okay for someone who didn't go to college, he did better than people who went to college. Many people go to college see it as a privilege of money or access or opportunity but not necessarily driven by grit. The people driven by grit succeed whether or not they go to college because their ambition transcend anything that might be formally taught to them. So in terms of career, ambition is everything. Now, when you have the occasion to take a class, take a class that is harder than what will enable you to get an A; get a B and maybe even a C every now and then in a course that's a little bit too hard for you because if you take a class that's easy and you get A's and everybody gets A's, you don't really distinguish yourself from others. In school, especially when you have control over your course load, there's too many people taking classes that are easy so that they can get a high GPA. They're not doing themselves a service. It might affect the first job you get but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and subsequent jobs, you will have risen higher than those who got the grade for the sake of the grade because you would've taken harder classes and at the end of the day you'll know more about what it is you're studying than those who took the easy classes just to get the A. Ask any adult, after the 2nd job and say "when was the last time someone asked you your GPA?" They will not even be able to remember the last time that happened. Go to successful people and say "what was your GPA?" Go and ask if they get straight A's; I'm betting the answer is no. And ask the ones who have transformed the lives of other people in this regard. Try not to be distracted by grades. Instead, take classes you like and take classes that challenge you, even at the risk of getting a lower grade than you might otherwise have achieved. People who are short sighted will look for people with A-averages out of the box and people with long-sight will see what courses you actually took. And one job later, you will be at the top of that heap, not at the bottom. ... "

" ... This lady, Lizzie Wiscombe who actually works at the museum as a volunteer, actually, and is partially sighted. She walks around the museum with her guide dog named Mr. Healey, “Mr. H.” she would sit with me and we would talk for hours and hours. I ended up copying her voice to create Mary’s voice in the film, she was generous with her time and trusted me with her stories. A fantastic group of people to work with, and a wonderful community. A proper definition of a community there in Lyme Regis. ... "
