" ... 3. Giant entertainment companies will continue to spend heavily on premium content. This will raise the demand and price of prominent showrunners and filmmakers, which in turn will raise the price of production. Interconnected narratives that cross film and television storytelling will also increase expense. Streaming divisions within traditional studios will continue to lose money in the short-term but will look for subscriber growth to achieve breakeven. The desire to increase subscriber fees will be great - as Disney indicated with its price increases. ... "
" ... As the streaming wars heated up, Netflix locked up two of the most successful Black showrunners in television with nine-figure overall deals—Grey’s Anatomy’s Shonda Rhimes and Black-ish’s Kenya Barris, who sources say plans to continue work on a documentary film about civil rights attorney Ben Crump for Netflix even as he prepares to launch a studio in partnership with ViacomCBS. ... " ... Inhumans needs to be a cautionary tale for Marvel that if they want to maintain the integrity of the MCU, which pre-Iron Fist, had a frankly amazing run of quality, for the most part. It's what separates them from DC, where an 80-90% on Rotten Tomatoes film is par for the course for Marvel, but for DC that's a Wonder Woman-like miracle. When people hear something is part of the MCU, whether it's a film, network show or Netflix offering, there's an expectation of quality. Marvel needs to slow down and really consider what projects they take on, and who they’re giving them to. Maybe all of this is Scott Buck related and removing him from the equation fixes things. But it was Marvel’s call to bring him on board this project and only did so allegedly because almost no other showrunners were free to make a show on this short of notice. ... "
" ... Just Write is the YouTube channel of creator Sage Hyden’s video essays and commentary on writing, literature, film, and television, including some on Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones video essays range from those who give the showrunners Dan Benioff and D.B. Weiss praise to outright derision; however, Hyden’s commentary is a bit more complex and contemplative than most. He has at times admired the series, using it as an example in a “writing lessons” video that explains the importance of building empathy in good storytelling, but he has become more critical Benioff and Weiss’ storytelling ability in season 7. ... " ... The show being bad is obviously the most pressing problem, and again, it’s bizarre that Marvel would turn to Scott Buck, the showrunner for Iron Fist, the most universally despised addition to the MCU since its inception, to helm this project. The answer to this question is most likely “he was free,” and one of the only showrunners who was handy to work on the insanely tight production schedule of Inhumans, a show being rushed to air for reasons I can’t possible comprehend. Does it need to come out before SHIELD comes back because of a tie-in? Is it trying to get out ahead of a specific MCU film? None of this makes much sense, but from all accounts, the final product has suffered as a result. ... "
