" ... Characters revealed themselves to each other and to the audience in this episode. Stephen Moyer has displayed considerable acting chops all season as Chamberlain Corbett, playing the character with equal parts menace, charm, and volatile insecurity. Throughout the episode, we learn that he has worked his way to his position from the most dire of upbringings, and that his primary motivation is to keep the shire that took him in alive. Corbett does revolting things, but he isn't exactly revolting. I have been hard pressed to find anything interesting about Lee Jones as Wilkin Brattle. Jones is stone-like in his acting and oafish in his demeanor, but as he confessed his deception to Lady Love in this episode I finally found sympathy with Kurt Sutter's choice to make him a true blue hero type. We see Brattle commit horrifically violent acts on this show, perhaps the only way we'd continue to see him as the hero was through a boringly noble persona. It grew increasingly hard to root for Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy when he grew to be a murderous criminal mastermind (but that might have been the point, with the Hamlet parables and such). Flora Spencer-Longhurst's Lady Love became slightly more interesting in this episode as well, willing to take part in deception for the hope that she might find happiness in her future. Again, tons of stuff happened in this episode, and I'll try and break it down. ... "
