The Advisory summarized results from studies ranging from observational studies to randomized clinical trials. An observational study doesn't mean staring at people while they eat fish or dressing up as a trash can while you follow people around. Rather, in an observational study, researchers compare the health outcomes of those who tend to eat more fish with those who tend to eat less or no fish. Observational studies are not the cleanest of studies since many confounding factors that the researchers don't see or record could be affecting results. For example, what if sushi eaters are in general superior human beings to non-sushi eaters? What if fish eaters have access to better resources or better health care?
