" ... A few years ago, Danny Potocki got to wondering. New York City was, of course, home to a kazillion impact startups and social entrepreneurs. But what about the area just north of the city? Wasn't there a sizeable number of fledgling social enterprises? And wouldn’t they benefit from a new startup accelerator? ... "
" ... One final comment I feel compelled to make to Minaj: please stop misusing numbers. I know there is an old expression to “give 110%.” It’s an unfortunate expression, since it defies both mathematical and literal sense, and no can give more than 100%, which means the sum total of what you have, but it is with us none the less. It has caught on with sports broadcasters who like to describe athletes as giving more than 100% despite the fact that this is completely impossible. I’m certainly not the grammar police and there is poetic license in word usage - you probably see that here it in my columns all the time. But occasionally misusing 100% is one thing - and long popular with Idol judges. Constantly agreeing a thousand percent, or a million percent, or a million billion kazillion percent, and just making up numbers, as Minaj loves to do, is ridiculous. Seriously. I know there's lots more to be said about how that happens (I have, after all, written a few of those books), but isn't that the heart of it? ... "
" ... While San Francisco and New York City are, of course, home to a kazillion tech startups, minority-owned small businesses, like such enterprises in the rest of the country, don’t receive a lot of funding. In San Francisco, according to Chase, Latino and black-owned small businesses received less than 10 percent of Small Business Administration loans in 2015. Whites got 53 percent. ... "
" ... “It’s hard to impress most venture capitalists. They tend to be a skeptical bunch. The entrepreneurs who have impressed me the most do these five things: (1) they convince me they are dedicated , passionate, and know what needs to be done to reach their goals; (2) they show me there is a big market opportunity, that they can capture a meaningful amount of the market, and that they clearly understand their competition; (3) they understand their metrics and financials cold; (4) they demonstrate they would be good people to work with and are not afraid of risks; and (5) they convince me that we could make a kazillion dollars together and have fun doing it.” ...
