" ... But in some small way, I felt a bit of that pioneer spirit in my ride through the quiet back roads of Oregon and Washington on a motorcycle that is essentially from the future, from a time when doing my coastal loop in a day at speed on an electric bike will be a no-brainer, because it has a 500-mile range, makes 200hp, recharges in 5 minutes and is reliable as a hammer. Zero’s SR/S is most of the way to that future right now. It was a hoot to ride, carried me in comfort, went like the dickens and worked exactly as designed, even going above and beyond its apparent maximum abilities when things got ugly. It capably got me to where I wanted and needed to go in style and comfort, and then got me home with no problems other than the limitations of the battery. I can’t ask for more than that. ... "
" ... If Ford bought GM we'd want to have a look at market power and concentration in the car market. If Ford bought Albertson's then we'd not give a hoot, because there just wouldn't be any antitrust issues. Amazon buying Whole Foods is much closer to the second than the first--which is why the FTC had a quick look and said they don't give a hoot either. ... "
" ... Scholastic’s extended social presence depends on each individual author and book. When a big author isn’t on social, the marketing team will handle those efforts. Meanwhile, Baden will oversee content, while also making sure every employee on social understands the platforms, legal guidelines, and corporate messages. On the other hand, there are some authors who are constantly asking the team how they can support their books with social media—whether it’s an Instagram video, a Twitter chat, or a Snapchat takeover. A great example: On Halloween, R.L Stine, the creator of the Goosebumps series, will take over all of Scholastic’s social media accounts and have some fun. As Baden says, “He is a hoot.” ... "
" ... The Slingshot is a hoot to drive on snaking backroads and even just rolling around town. On a busy major highway, the experience is perhaps more... interesting. On the freeway, mixing with typical traffic, the Slingshot’s doorless, roofless open cabin definitely feels more like being on a motorcycle, albeit a really, really wide one. It’s here that the low, low supercar-like stance of the Slingshot R becomes most apparent, as you square off with Civics and F150s. Even a Prius seems like an SUV compared to the Slingshot, and at one point I had to split between two semis on the three lanes of Interstate 84 in Portland in order to gain access to an exit. The big trucks positively towered over me, and I gassed it hard to speed my exit from the rolling cargo canyon, potential tickets be damned. It was the only really tense moment I had in the Slingshot, but it was a good reminder that (as noted below), the Slingshot is not a car, and does not provide the protections of one. This is a vehicle made for backroad scratching, boulevard cruising, or weekend drives along river roads and coastal highways. That’s where I enjoyed it most. Commuting? It certainly can be done, but that’s really not this vehicle’s mission. ... "
" ... What a hoot! Chanel’s round box bag in black acrylic with a gold-tone owl is a statement bag for any season. ... "
