" ... Although art is not inherently political, it often reflects, questions and challenges contemporary views and modern culture. Our “art meets fashion” concept invites us to participate in this discussion. While racism, immigration and the symbol of the wall are not new issues, Trump has brought them into the public forum. Each x Other has different values to Trump. As a figure of Capitalism, he promotes a society of individuals and is driven by profit and power. Each x Other values collaboration and favours authenticity over mass-production. The concept of Each x Other was inspired by the Situationist movement and The Society of the Spectacle by Guy Debord. Debord critiques contemporary consumer culture and commodity fetishism, noting the decline in the value of authenticity. As the German philosopher Feuerbach writes, “the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, appearance to essence… truth is considered profane, and only illusion is sacred.” Each x Other aims to bring authenticity back into an industry that has become a tool of capitalism. We use fashion as a platform by which artists can reach a wider audience and art can become less elitist and more accessible. Each x Other is a progressive brand that straddles the border between art and fashion; Trump acts on fear and wants to build walls. As Percy Bysshe Shelley writes, “Poetry, and the principle of Self, of which money is the visible incarnation, are the God and Mammon of the world.” Art operates in a different realm to politics. It offers a safe place to debate and reflect on current issues without censorship. The role of the artist is to question and challenge ideas. Although these ideas are often subversive, art opens them up for interpretation. Art prompts discussion; it is not inherently political. ... "
" ... American Made is not quite an apology for Top Gun and the military fetishism it created 31 years ago. It certainly isn’t a grim and hopelessly defeatist apologia like Sylvester Stallone’s last Rambo movie, which I still maintain is Stallone’s Unforgiven. But, while obviously playing a different, lighter game, Doug Liman’s American Made is good enough and thoughtful enough in terms of examining a similar period in time that I’m almost curious as to what Cruise has in mind for Top Gun: Maverick. I still think that’s a bad idea, but now I’m willing to give him a little rope. ... "
" ... Finally, “Seduction” include shoes that are “an expression of sexual empowerment or a passive source of pleasure. Like feet, shoes can be objects of fetishism. High Japanese geta, extreme heels and tight-laced leather boots will be on display as well as examples of erotic styles channeled by mainstream fashion in recent years.” ... "
" ... Perhaps we don’t even need high economic growth. perhaps there’s been too much growth fetishism – especially when we think of the environmental costs, and even more so if that growth fails to bring much benefit to the vast majority of citizens.” ... "
" ... This gothic horror/action franchise, pitting Kate Beckinsale as a leather-clad, gun-tooting, ass-kicking vampire against both werewolves and treacherous vampires (neither of whom seeing worth championing), has never been known for being particularly good. However, in retrospect, it’s nice that this unapologetic female-led B-movie genre franchise thrived for awhile (2003-2017) alongside Milla Jovovich’s equally unpretentious Resident Evil series (2004-2017). By default, Blood Wars is arguably the best of the bunch, and it’s also the only installment with a female director. Anna Foerster offers a bit more female gaze and a little less conventional fetishism to the proceedings, and Beckinsale is ever-committed to what accidentally became a defining role for the prolific British actress. It works on its own limited terms, even as it tries to be a backdoor pilot for a Theo James-starring spin-off, providing solid action sequences, a juicy villain role for Lara Pulver and 90 minutes genre fun. To quote The Irishman, it’s what it is. ... "
