" ... SP: We are obviously going through a time right now where we are speaking a lot about how police function in our society. We all dedicated more mental energy to that than we ever had in our lives right now. I think that we have a major problem with policing. I am sort of on the train of let’s defund the police and abolish the police but I don’t think that’s necessary about individual officers. Looking as a whole is broken in this country but that doesn’t mean that there aren't officers with the best content and officers who are trying their hardest to do the right thing from inside the police force. To me, Rivers is one of those guys who optimize and naively believes that he can use his knowledge of the neighborhood. He can use his position as a police officer to effect change and hangs his hopes on Mouse as the prime example of if he can make a difference or not. Now rather that’s fair to Mouse or not, there is a scene with Blax where they discussed that directly. I do think his heart is in the right place and has a genuine intention. I wanted to give a little bit of props and credibility to the Black officers who choose to serve for all the right reasons and I think Rivers really represent that. I wanted to draw a parallel between him and Blax. I think that was something fun about writing those two characters into conjugation is they both care about Mouse and both want what’s best for him. They are going about at it in completely different directions and life experiences. To watch them play off each other and have different strategies to get through to Mouse is something interesting. Of course, it commentates in the couple scenes they have face-to-face. The first scene being very intense and aggressive where it feels like it could almost end in a fight. The last one being the resolution of the movie where they sort of come to an uneasy understanding. ... "
" ... Some systems are the same for matter as they are for antimatter: they exhibit charge conjugation symmetry. Some systems obey the same laws if you evolve them forwards in time as they do if you evolve them backwards in time: time-reversal symmetry. Still others don't depend on your physical location (translational symmetry) or on when you're viewing your system (time-translational symmetry) or on which non-accelerating reference frame you occupy (Lorentz symmetry). ... " ... That last criteria is met in the Standard Model — both charge conjugation (swapping particles for antiparticles) and the combination of charge conjugation and parity (mirror-symmetry) symmetries are violated — but not by a great enough amount to explain the Universe we know we have. ... "
