" ... And arguably, within the business community, it's small entrepreneurial companies that suffer most in these conditions. Large companies can – and very often do – invest in extensive resilience and recovery strategies to ensure they can continue trading when an office is put out of action by flood, fire, burglary or power failure. These might include an arrangement to move to alternative premises that are already set up to carry on business as usual. At the very least, the chances are that vital data will be stored safely in third party data centres. ... "
" ... New research has revealed just how obsessed the British are when it comes to using the latest technology for keeping tabs on their children, babysitters, cleaners and partners. The research conducted by Opinium for Direct Line Home Insurance in September, and revealed today, provides insight into the use of smart devices in monitoring those around us. There is no doubting that devices such as digital security cameras, smart door bells and even central heating thermostats that detect movement can be a boon when it comes to home security. This is the positive side of the research that Jenny Trueman, head of connected homes and product innovation at Direct Line, emphasizes in the press release that announced the research findings. "Smart technology in the home can be incredibly beneficial from a security and safety perspective" she says, adding "reducing the impact of a leak, fire or burglary by sending you an alert as soon as something happens." The release also includes some user comment such as 'Claire from Canterbury' who uses her smart thermostat which has movement detection built in and sends a smartphone notification, presumably so you can turn the heating on, "to check when our cleaner arrives." Or 'Simon from Orpington' who was apparently given a smart camera by his electricity supplier and which he is to "keep a closer eye on my teenage sons coming and going." Simon does, the report says, at least let his kids know there is a camera monitoring the house. Not everyone adopts the same full disclosure approach it would seem; and that's where my concerns enter the equation. ... "
" ... Security is a really hot topic right now. With more of us working from home, we need ways to keep a hard backup of our data, especially if it has commercially sensitive data on it belonging to our employer or business. There’s a need to find a way to prevent that data from falling into the wrong hands in the event of a burglary or the loss of a computing device. To some extent, Cloud computing has helped but not everyone has the Internet upload speeds fast enough to back up large files online. ... "
" ... The Tapo C310 is an outdoor security camera that’s so affordable it would be crazy not to set one up to cover areas of a property that may be vulnerable to burglary or casual vandalism. The Tapo C310 can work via WiFi or over Ethernet if you happen to have a wired network in your home or office. The camera is controlled using the Tapo smartphone app and it’s all very easy to set up and use. ... "
" ... When talking about home security products, customer data, and information security should be at the forefront of that conversation. With the Always Home Cam, users have complete control of their videos. When a burglary or suspicious offense occurs, sharing that footage is entirely at the user's discretion, users can set how long the video files will remain stored within the cloud before being deleted and can also decide who they share those videos with and revoke those sharing privileges at any time. If a third party could control the length of video storage time or how the device navigates throughout the house, I would be concerned, but those options currently don't exist. The Always Home Cam is limited to the inside of your home. That means if someone wanted to alter a flight path or harm the integrity of the device, they would have to be let inside your home willingly. The Always Home Cam initially seems very secure, plus without the option to operate the device apart from programming flight paths, hackers won't be able to drive this drone around your home at will. ...
